Since the decision to dissolve all 92 Palestinian Zakat Committees by the government of Salam Fayadh last October, this issue has been the subject of controversy. While the government used terms such as “reorganization” or “reforming” of these committees, other more vocal critics described the move as purely political to appease the demands of the United States and Israel. The consensus, though, is that the move came as another area of contention between Hamas and Fatah dominated Government of Salam Fayadh.
