The Egyptian Committee to Lift the Siege on Gaza is preparing to send a symbolic convoy to Gaza on next Friday as a part of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, within the framework of a campaign that was agreed upon by the Committee during its last meeting to reject the construction of the Steel Wall on the border between Egyptian Rafah and the Gaza Strip.
Mohammad Al-Sakhawi, a prominent member of Egypt’s Labor Party, predicted that the Egyptian security would prevent the convoy from reaching Rafah, and did not rule out a series of arrests of party activists, as it happened with other convoys of the Egyptian Committee to lift the siege on Gaza .
The Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboulgheit announced from Washington the prevention of any new convoys from entering the Gaza Strip, and restricting the delivery and transfer of assistance to be conducted by the Egyptian Red Crescent.
Al-Sakhawi ,in a statement published by /The Seventh Day / newspaper on Sunday criticized , the Government's position regarding the Lifeline 3 convoy considering the conviction of MP George Galloway as a condemnation of all those who do not recognize the Israeli entity.
The leading figure in the Labor Party described "The position of Sheikh Al-Azhar Mohamed Sayed Tantawi on justifying the construction of the wall as only an implementation of the ruling regime’s instructions and policies”
