Miles of Smiles 2 arrives in Gaza
humanityvoice - 2010-08-10

The humanitarian aid convoy ‘Miles of Smiles 2’ arrived early Monday in Gaza, organizers said.

The convoy is accompanied by 42 peace activists, 50 tons of drugs, 46 ambulances, buses for the disabled and 18 medical devices, said Dr Isam Yousef, coordinator of the convoy.

In an exclusive interview with Nafethat Alkhair, Yousef said the work of unloading the cargo ship had been smooth, and there was a remarkable cooperation by the Department of the Egyptian port of El Arish.

“Entering Gaza was a dream for many people. Now it has come true,” said Yousef.

Yousef congratulated organizers and participants in Miles of Smiles 2. “This convoy will not be the last; there will be more convoys,” he reassured Gaza’s people.

Bahraini Mohammed Jassim – a member of the Islamic Society of Bahrain – described his experience as an unspeakable moment: “When I arrived in Gaza, it was like being in Mekkeh,” he observed.

A lot of peace activists and people around the world stand by the people of Gaza, who never went down in the face of the unjust Israel blockade, said Yousef.

The British delegation, which arrived in Gaza on Saturday, appeared to have left the Gaza Strip on Sunday, after a field tour in many of the institutions in Gaza.

Rashad Baz, spokesperson for Miles of Smiles 2 told Nafethat Alkhair there will be a new aid convoy in early October. The expected convoy will be a surprise, he said.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of the governmental committee to break the siege on Gaza, Ahmed Youssef, welcomed the visiting delegation coming from many Arab, European and African countries.
