Red Crescent to send urgent relief aid to the Horn of Africa

UAE is to rush emergency relief aid to the Horn of Africa as per directives of President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to those affected by continuing drought in the peninsula.

The UAE Red Crescent has completed preparations to begin urgent relief operations to help victims of the disaster that threatens millions of lives in parts of Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda.

The Horn of Africa, which often sees food crises, is witnessing the worst drought in 60 years.

FAO recently appealed for fast response to the drought in the region to provide agricultural emergency assistance. The Red Crescent Authority.

The Authority has taken measures to speed up delivery of aid to those affected by food shortages caused by one of the worst famine in half a century in HOA.

"The relief program comes within the framework of the humanitarian responsibility undertaken by the country to alleviate human suffering wherever it takes place", said Sheikh Hamdan.
