Thabit organization for the right of return in Lebanon, has issued a press release through which it expressed thanks for the Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati for the issuance of a circular to facilitate his government dealing with the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
The Lebanese government issued on 30/11/2011 a circular demanding all public and private departments, and municipalities to adopt the documents issued by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to extract certificates of birth, death, marriage, and divorce.
Thabit organization said that the circular of the Lebanese Council of Ministers contributes in “ alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian refugees residing in Lebanon, as residents with documents issued by the (PA).
It added that such circular would help those Palestinian refugees to live in dignity, until the realization of their return to their lands and properties that they were forced to depart from during Palestine occupation catastrophe of 1948”.
The human rights organization also called on the Lebanese government to work for giving more social rights for the refugees, especially the right to work and own property, while refusing settlement, and uphold the right of return.
Thabet press release concluded by saying that “ giving such rights for the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon , would be the most important gift for them on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”.
Thabit is a Palestinian cultural informational independent non-governmental organization, active in the Palestinian arena, with headquarters in Lebanon.
It concerns itself with the Palestinian refugees' cause and their right of return to their homeland of which they were driven out at the time of the Catastrophe (al-Nakbah) in the year 1948.
Its activities target various age groups and different cultural levels among the elite and decision-makers, in addition to diverse sections of Palestinian refugees' masses in various camps, gatherings, and regions.
